Yuri Manga With Happy Endings: Sapphic Manga That Won’t Break Your Heart

Sometimes you want complicated. Sometimes you want devastating. And sometimes you simply want two women to fall in love and still be okay when you close the final volume.

That shouldn’t be a difficult request. Unfortunately, searching for “yuri manga with happy endings” can be surprisingly frustrating.

Recommendation lists often mix completed and ongoing manga. A series may be called “happy” simply because the couple is currently together, even though the manga hasn’t ended. Other lists confuse a hopeful conclusion with a romance HEA, or recommend beautiful but emotionally devastating yuri without warning the reader.

We’re going to be stricter.

This guide is for readers looking for yuri, Girls’ Love and sapphic manga with positive romantic outcomes. For every recommendation, we’ll tell you what kind of ending you’re getting. And if a manga is still ongoing? We won’t pretend to know how it ends.

Our rule for this page: a manga only appears in the main recommendations if its story is complete and we have checked how the central romance ends. Ongoing series get their own section and are never labeled HEA, however happy the couple looks right now.

Fantasy fans: I’m in Love with the Villainess isn’t in this table because its manga adaptation is still ongoing. You’ll find it in the ongoing section. For more magic, see our Yuri Fantasy Manga guide.

A note before we continue: happy does not always mean identical. Some manga give you a conventional romantic HEA. Others give you a clearly positive relationship ending without trying to show the couple’s entire future. So we use several labels.

What Do We Mean by “Happy Ending”?

Because this page exists specifically for ending-sensitive readers, we need to be precise. These are the ending labels we use across LRR’s manga guides:

❤️ HEA HEA: Happily Ever After

The central romance ends clearly and positively, with the couple together and strong reason to believe the relationship continues.

💕 Happy ending Happy Romantic Ending

The central relationship reaches a positive romantic conclusion. We may not see marriage or decades into the future, but the romance ends happily.

🙂 HFN HFN: Happy for Now

The couple is together or moving positively forward, but the story leaves more of their future open.

🌱 Hopeful Hopeful

The ending is positive or emotionally healing, but the work may not function as conventional genre romance.

💔 Bittersweet / tragic Bittersweet or Tragic

The central relationship does not end happily. Not for comfort reading.

❓ Ongoing Ongoing / Ending Unknown

The manga isn’t finished. No matter how happy the characters currently look, we don’t call an unfinished manga an HEA.

That last one is the rule.

1. Bloom Into You — Nio Nakatani

Bloom Into You manga volume 1 cover
❤️ HEA

Bloom Into You

Nio Nakatani

  • Best for First-time yuri readers, introspective romance, slow emotional development

  • Series Complete in Japan (2015–2019), 8 volumes
  • English edition Seven Seas, 8 volumes, complete

Yuu Koito expects love to feel dramatic. Romance stories have prepared her for that moment when everything suddenly changes.

Then someone confesses to her. Nothing.

Meeting Touko Nanami initially seems like a relief because Touko appears similarly uninterested in romance. Then Touko develops feelings for Yuu.

What follows is less about whether two characters will eventually kiss and more about how they understand attraction, identity, expectation and themselves. That’s part of what makes the eventual romantic resolution satisfying: the relationship has to grow alongside the characters.

Why it’s on this list

The manga is complete. The English edition is complete. And the central relationship receives an actual positive romantic resolution, with an epilogue that checks in on them years later.

That combination makes Bloom Into You particularly useful for readers who don’t want to gamble on an unfinished story.

Read it if: You want a complete yuri romance where emotional development matters as much as the final relationship.

2. Girl Friends — Milk Morinaga

Milk Morinaga

  • Best for Friends to lovers, classic yuri romance
  • Creator Milk Morinaga
  • Characters High school
  • Romance Central
  • Series Complete in Japan (2006–2010), 5 volumes
  • English edition Seven Seas, collected in omnibus “Complete Collection” editions

Mari is quiet and serious. Akko is outgoing, fashionable and much more socially confident.

Akko pulls Mari into friendship. Friendship becomes closeness. Closeness becomes attraction. And attraction creates exactly the kind of emotional confusion you’d expect when losing a friendship feels almost as frightening as never confessing your feelings.

Why it’s on this list

If you want a relatively straightforward answer to “Do the girls actually get together?”: yes.

Angst is minimal once they do, and the story takes them seriously as a couple, right up to talking about coming out and the future they’ll share. This is not a story built around punishing its characters for falling in love.

Read it if: You want classic friends-to-lovers yuri with a rewarding romantic conclusion.

3. Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon — Shio Usui

Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon manga volume 1 cover

  • Creator Shio Usui
  • Characters Adult office workers
  • Romance Central, quiet slow burn
  • Series Complete in Japan (2019–2022), 4 volumes
  • English edition Seven Seas, 4 volumes, complete
  • Ending 💕 Happy romantic ending (a non-physical, asexual-spectrum romance)

Hinako has spent years trying to become the kind of woman she believes she should be. She tries dating men. She worries about clothes and makeup. She tries to understand why the romantic life everyone else seems to pursue naturally feels so unnatural to her.

Then she becomes closer to her coworker Asahi. Their relationship grows through ordinary interactions rather than dramatic romantic spectacle. That quietness is precisely what makes the eventual emotional resolution work.

Why it’s on this list

This is one of our strongest recommendations for adult readers who want a sapphic story that is both thoughtful and emotionally safe. The manga explores uncertainty without making tragedy the price of self-discovery.

Know before you read

The two women end the story romantically devoted to each other, but theirs is an emotional, non-physical romance: Hinako isn’t interested in kissing, and the manga treats that as valid rather than as an obstacle to overcome. If you’re hoping for a physical romance, set your expectations accordingly. If you’re an ace-spectrum reader, this may be exactly the happy ending you’ve been looking for.

Read it if: You want adult women + slow burn + self-discovery + a positive ending.

4. I Married My Female Friend — Shio Usui

I Married My Female Friend manga volume 1 cover
❤️ HEA

I Married My Female Friend

Shio Usui

  • Best for Marriage, domestic life, friends to lovers
  • Creator Shio Usui
  • Characters Adult women
  • Romance Central
  • Series Complete in Japan (2020–2023), 4 volumes
  • English edition Seven Seas, 4 volumes, complete
  • Ending ❤️ HEA: the marriage becomes a real romance, ending with their wedding

Kurumi and Ruriko make one of those promises friends aren’t necessarily expected to keep: if they’re both still single in five years, they’ll marry each other.

Five years later, they do.

Except marriage doesn’t magically answer the most important question. Are they actually in love?

The manga begins where many romances finish, with the women already married, and lets emotional intimacy catch up with the legal arrangement.

Why it’s on this list

The central pleasure is watching friendship and domestic partnership become something explicitly romantic. And because the manga is complete, we’re not making assumptions about where that progression leads: the marriage of convenience becomes a real love story, and the final chapter gives them their wedding.

Read it if: You want adult domestic yuri without a tragic surprise waiting at the end.

5. Still Sick — Akashi

Still Sick manga volume 1 cover

Still Sick

Akashi

  • Best for Workplace romance, creative women, shorter completed series
  • Creator Akashi
  • Characters Adult office workers
  • Romance Major
  • Series Complete in Japan (2018–2020), 3 volumes
  • English edition TOKYOPOP, 3 volumes, complete
  • Ending 💕 Happy romantic resolution

Makoto Shimizu works an ordinary office job. Outside work, she secretly creates amateur yuri manga.

Then coworker Akane Maekawa discovers her secret.

What begins as an embarrassing collision between Shimizu’s professional and private lives becomes a relationship shaped by creativity, disappointment, ambition and emotional vulnerability.

Why it’s on this list

At only three volumes, Still Sick is particularly attractive if you want a complete adult yuri without beginning a long series.

The story can become emotionally complicated, but complication isn’t the same as tragedy. Akane’s walls have to come down before the two can simply be together, and the ending resolves that without loose threads.

Read it if: You want adult workplace yuri with a manageable reading commitment.

6. Kase-san and… — Hiromi Takashima

Kase-san and Shortcake manga cover (volume 3 of the Kase-san series)
💕 Happy · original run

Kase-san and… (series)

Hiromi Takashima

  • Best for Sweet romance, athletic girl × gardening girl
  • Creator Hiromi Takashima
  • Characters High school
  • Romance Central
  • Series Complete in Japan (2010–2017), 5 volumes; sequel ongoing
  • English edition Seven Seas, 5 volumes (Morning Glories, Bento, Shortcake, an Apron, Cherry Blossoms); sequel Kase-san and Yamada ongoing
  • Ending 💕 Happy (original 5-volume run); sequel Kase-san and Yamada ❓ ongoing

Yamada loves gardening. Kase is a track star. They fall in love.

One of the pleasures of the Kase-san stories is that becoming girlfriends isn’t treated as the final achievement. They still have to date. They still become jealous. They still worry about the future. They still have to learn how to be partners.

An important series-status note

This franchise requires more care than simply writing “Complete.”

The original five-volume Kase-san and… run is complete and ends positively, with the couple together and making plans for life after high school. Its continuation, Kase-san and Yamada, follows them into university and is still ongoing, so we don’t label the franchise as a whole.

Check which edition or continuation you’re buying rather than assuming every volume belongs to one completed sequence.

Read it if: Your priority is sweet central romance rather than emotional destruction.

More Happy Yuri Manga Worth Exploring

The safest happy-ending guide should grow slowly. I’d rather give you twelve endings we’ve checked carefully than fifty titles copied from another recommendation list.

As we expand this page, we’re looking especially for completed manga in these categories:

  • Adult happy-ending yuri: adult women, workplace romance, marriage and domestic life.
  • Fantasy yuri with HEAs: magic, princesses, villainesses and fantasy worlds where the women don’t have to die for loving each other.
  • Short yuri with happy endings: one-shots and short completed series for readers who don’t want an eight-volume commitment.
  • Cozy yuri: low-conflict relationships, everyday life, food, domesticity and emotional comfort.
  • Spicy yuri with happy endings: adult F/F manga where sexual content and a positive romantic ending can coexist. This category requires particularly careful age-rating and content verification.

Ongoing Yuri That Looks Happy Isn’t a “Happy Ending”

This deserves its own section because recommendation sites get it wrong constantly.

Consider an ongoing romance. The couple may currently be together. They may be adorable. Nothing terrible may have happened for ten volumes.

That tells us the current relationship status. It does not tell us the ending.

So ongoing yuri can still be recommended as sweet, romantic, low angst or currently positive, but not as HEA confirmed until the story is complete.

Several popular series are excellent recommendations even though they don’t belong in the verified core of this page yet.

The best-known sapphic villainess story, and unapologetically romantic. The original light novel ends with the couple together, but this page is about manga, and the manga adaptation hasn’t finished. When it does, we’ll check it and move it up if it earns a place.

This isn’t a criticism of these books. It is simply accurate labeling.

Happy Yuri Manga About Adult Women

For LRR readers, this is probably the most useful shortcut on the page. If you want adult characters AND a positive ending, start with:

These are especially useful if you like lesbian romance novels but have been hesitant about manga because so many recommendation lists emphasize teenage characters. Prefer full-color digital comics? Yuri Manhwa & GL Webtoons covers adult GL too. For more grown-up yuri (not all of it with verified happy endings), see our Adult Lesbian & Yuri Manga guide.

Happy School Yuri Manga

School settings dominate a large part of yuri history and remain enormously popular. If you’re comfortable reading teenage romance:

  • Bloom Into You: best for introspection and emotional development.
  • Girl Friends: best for classic friends to lovers.
  • Kase-san and…: best for sweetness and watching a relationship continue after the initial confession.

School yuri doesn’t have to mean tragedy or endless subtext. Sometimes the girls really do get to be girlfriends.

Does “Happy Ending” Mean No Angst?

Definitely not. A book can put its characters through considerable pain and still end happily. These are different filters:

  • Ending tells you where the story ultimately leaves the characters.
  • Tone tells you what the journey feels like.
  • Angst tells you how emotionally difficult that journey may become.

A hypothetical manga could therefore be ❤️ HEA and 😭 high angst. That’s useful information. Simply calling it “happy yuri” isn’t enough.

This is one reason our future Eikna manga system will separate ending, tone and trope rather than treating them as the same category.

Happy Ending vs. Low Angst

If what you actually want is comfort, don’t search only for happy endings. You probably want: positive ending + low/moderate angst + healthy relationship dynamics. Those three things together are much closer to what readers mean by a “safe” romance.

A story can have a happy ending after infidelity, bereavement, serious illness, abuse, separation or enormous psychological distress. Technically happy doesn’t necessarily mean emotionally comfortable.

We therefore keep ending classification separate from content notes.

Yuri Manga to Avoid If You Need a Guaranteed Happy Ending

This doesn’t mean these are bad manga. It means they’re wrong for this specific reading mood.

Beautiful. Romantic. Complete. And absolutely not the manga to pick because you searched “happy yuri.” If grief and loss are hard limits, choose something else. Our Dark Yuri Manga guide explains why we call it tragic rather than dark.

Ongoing series

Not because they’re tragic. Because the ending doesn’t exist yet. We won’t promise you an HEA the creator hasn’t written.

Yuri subtext

If your real requirement is “I want two women explicitly romantically together at the end,” then strong emotional subtext isn’t enough. Choose confirmed romance.

How We Verify Happy Endings

Ending-sensitive recommendations require more work than ordinary book lists. For this page we ask:

  1. Is the relevant manga story complete? If not, no HEA label.
  2. Is the central relationship actually romantic? Close female friendship isn’t automatically romance.
  3. What happens to the central couple? Together? Separated? Ambiguous? Does one die?
  4. Is the ending romantic or merely hopeful? Those aren’t necessarily the same.
  5. Are we discussing the manga or another adaptation? A light novel, manga and anime may not all have reached the same point.
  6. Is the English edition complete? A Japanese series can be finished while English publication is still catching up. That’s useful information for someone buying the series.

Where Should You Start?

If your priority is simply “Please give me something sapphic and let me finish happy,” I’d choose:

You don’t need fifty recommendations. You need one that matches your mood.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does yuri manga usually have happy endings?

There is no universal yuri ending. Yuri includes happy romance, bittersweet stories, tragedy, horror, drama and ongoing series whose endings haven’t been written yet.

What is the best completed yuri manga with a happy ending?

Bloom Into You is one of our strongest general recommendations because the manga is complete and its central romance receives a positive resolution.

Are there adult yuri manga with happy endings?

Yes. Try Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon, I Married My Female Friend and Still Sick.

Is Bloom Into You a happy ending?

Yes. The completed manga gives its central relationship a positive romantic resolution, and its epilogue shows the couple still together years later.

Does Girl Friends have a happy ending?

Yes. Its central friends-to-lovers romance receives a happy conclusion.

Does Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon have a happy ending?

Yes. The completed four-volume story ends with the two women romantically devoted to each other. Their romance is emotional rather than physical.

Does I Married My Female Friend have a happy ending?

Yes. The friends-to-marriage relationship becomes a genuine romance, and the final chapter gives them their wedding.

Does The Summer You Were There have a happy ending?

No. Readers specifically trying to avoid grief and tragic romantic outcomes should not choose it as comfort reading.

Does Whisper Me a Love Song have a happy ending?

We don’t classify an ongoing manga as having a confirmed happy ending. Its current romantic developments are not the same thing as a completed HEA.

Does I’m in Love with the Villainess have a happy ending?

The original light novel ends with the couple together. The manga adaptation is still ongoing, so we don’t label the manga’s ending yet.

Can a yuri manga be happy without being a romance?

Yes. A story can have a hopeful or positive ending without following the structure of genre romance. That’s why we distinguish HEA, happy romantic ending, HFN and hopeful.

Sometimes You Just Want Them to Be Happy

There is a long history of queer stories teaching audiences to expect punishment. Love leads to separation. Discovery leads to shame. Someone leaves. Someone marries someone else. Someone dies.

Contemporary sapphic storytelling has much more room than that.

Yuri can still be tragic. It can still be dark. It can still break your heart when that’s exactly the story you want. But tragedy is no longer the admission price for reading about two women loving each other.

Sometimes they can struggle and still choose each other. Sometimes they can build a home. Sometimes friendship becomes love. Sometimes the confession works.

And sometimes you can close the final volume, put it back on the shelf and simply think: Good. They’re going to be okay.
