New Sapphic Books Released in August 2026: 33 Verified Releases
Every sapphic book we verified as released in August 2026 — romance and sapphic fiction, Big Five and independent — with release dates confirmed at retail or by the publisher.
This is one month in our new sapphic romance books directory, which links every month we have archived. For books still to come, see upcoming sapphic books; for the whole year in one place, see new sapphic books of 2026.

About This Month
Thirty-three sapphic releases from August 2026 are verified and listed below. This roundup was first published on 31 August 2026, at the close of the month, rather than waiting the usual four weeks, because the fact that normally needs time to settle — a firm US release date — was already confirmed at retail or by the publisher for every title here before we added it. What a one-month lag mainly protects against is late reclassification and reader-reception data that has not caught up yet, and for the newest titles in this batch (the August 25 and 26 releases) that reception picture is still thin. We have flagged Goodreads counts as provisional wherever they read low.
Looking for another month? Every month we have archived is in our new sapphic romance books directory, including July 2026 and September 2026.

August Releases Worth Knowing About
Romance Pick
The Rewind Effect
Morgan Lee Miller
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why It Matters Now
The strongest Goodreads average in this batch — 4.5 across 106 ratings — belongs to a second-chance romance that splits its timeline between the mid-1990s and today, following the same couple through a first attempt at each other and a second one twenty-five years later. Miller has built a run of Bold Strokes backlist around structurally ambitious romance rather than straightforward contemporary, and the dual-timeline format here is the clearest sign yet of that pattern continuing. Pick it if you want a slow-burn contemporary that also functions as a small piece of queer 1990s period fiction.

Sports Romance Pick
The Marriage Rebound
Meka James
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why It Matters Now
Meka James returns to the Atlanta Cannons series — Carina Adores’ entry into sapphic sports romance — with a second-chance marriage plot built around a professional basketball career rather than around it. It is the only WNBA-set title in this batch, and the series format means it arrives with an established readership already in place. Pick it if you want sports romance with the sport actually structuring the plot, not just supplying a backdrop. Read our full review.
Horror Pick
Stay Buried
Jennifer McMahon
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why It Matters Now
McMahon is an established literary-thriller author with a substantial existing readership — 717 Goodreads ratings already, well ahead of anything else in this batch — and Stay Buried is her first book to build its folk-horror dual timeline around a queer central relationship. That combination, a writer with a track record trying a sapphic-centered story for the first time, is worth watching regardless of how the book itself lands. Pick it if you want horror with real craft behind the pacing rather than genre furniture. Read our full review.
Fantasy Pick
Homeward for a Spell
Jamie Pacton & Rebecca Podos
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why It Matters Now
The second Homegrown Magic book follows a new couple, and it is a road quest rather than a shop-counter story: ranger Sage leads an adventuring party north into winter after a rare artifact, with runaway banking heiress Araphi along as the bard. Readers report more danger than the cozy label suggests, open-door heat (romance.io 3/5) and a happy ending. Two authors co-writing a sapphic fantasy series for a major imprint is still uncommon enough to be notable. Read our full review.
Most Intriguing Premise
The Divine Gardener’s Handbook
Eli Snow
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why It Matters Now
The full title alone tells you what kind of book this is: Or What To Do If Your Girlfriend Accidentally Turns Off the Sun. A dystopian science-fantasy romance that plays its apocalyptic premise for real stakes and genuine comedy at once. Saturday Books, St. Martin’s newer speculative-fiction-adjacent imprint, has been building a small catalogue of exactly this kind of high-concept, tonally mixed genre romance. Pick it if you want a premise you have not already read a version of somewhere else this year. Read our full review.
Small-Press Discovery
Witch’s Favor
Victoria Szalay
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why It Matters Now
Fox Ear Publishing is a small press with a limited catalogue, which makes an author launching a new trilogy there a genuine discovery rather than an author-brand bet. Witch’s Favor opens the Favor Trilogy with a heist plot and an F/F friends-to-lovers thread running underneath the dark-fantasy structure — sapphic fiction first, romance-adjacent second. Pick it if you like fantasy that classifies as fiction rather than romance but still gives you a real relationship to hold onto.
Literary Pick
Meet Me in the Garden
Nina LaCour
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why It Matters Now
LaCour is a National Book Award winner moving from YA into adult literary fiction, and Meet Me in the Garden already carries the highest review volume of any book in this batch — 1,677 Goodreads ratings at a 4.30 average before most of the rest of August had even published. That is a reception most releases on this page do not get anywhere close to. Pick it if you want literary fiction with a sapphic center from a writer whose YA work already built a substantial readership.
Under-the-Radar Pick
Chasing a Melody
A.L. Brooks
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why It Matters Now
Self-published and easy to miss entirely, the second Eagle Cove book carries the highest Goodreads average of any title in this batch at 4.72, even against a small rating count of eighteen. Brooks writes small-town contemporary romance without a publisher’s marketing budget behind it, which is exactly the kind of release this section exists to surface. Pick it if you want a low-key small-town romance and do not mind hunting for it yourself.

Sapphic Books Released in August 2026
August 1–7
Meet Me in the Garden
Nina LaCour
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — LaCour moves from her acclaimed YA work into an adult literary novel about a garden with a decades-old mystery buried in it, told across multiple points in time. Reviewers are already responding to it in large numbers, a genuinely different reception scale from almost everything else on this page. Pick it if you want literary fiction with real craft and do not need a fast-moving plot to stay with it.
Immortal Game
Allison Saft
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A YA fantasy romance built around a magical chess tournament, from an author whose earlier fantasy romances have found a consistent readership. It sits alongside Death Card and Bridget & Gabe Are Not Okay as one of three YA fantasy-adjacent romances that all published in August. Pick it if you want fantasy romance with a genuinely unusual central conceit.
Accidentally Falling
Shannon O’Connor
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — The second book in a small orchard-town series, self-published and available on Kindle Unlimited. It is the kind of contemporary romance that gets no review coverage but still builds a loyal readership one KU borrow at a time. Pick it if you want low-stakes small-town romance and do not need a publisher’s name behind it. Read our full review.
Just Another Summer
Susan & Tilly Bridges
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A YA graphic novel following two sisters at summer camp, with dual storylines: one sister’s arc is a genuine F/F romance, the other pairs her with a trans-man love interest, which is not a sapphic storyline on its own. We are counting the book for its F/F thread, not for the book as a whole being centered on one relationship. Pick it if you want a summer-camp graphic novel with more than one kind of queer story running through it.
Love on the Main Stage
Maude Winters
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — The second Sapphic Showmance book, a second-chance, age-gap romance between a songwriter and a secret princess, set at a Eurovision-style song contest, published by Palas Publishing and confirmed live on Kindle Unlimited. Small-press and self-published sapphic romance keeps finding an audience through series like this one rather than through individual breakout titles. Pick it if you want a workplace-adjacent second-chance romance with a specific, well-realized setting and a happy ending. Read our full review.
August 8–14
For the Love of the Quest
Alexandra Ammon Parthun
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A sapphic historical romance built around Arthurian legend, from a mid-size press that has been publishing a steady stream of genre romance with unusual historical settings. Pick it if you want historical romance that is not set in Regency England. Read our full review.
Death Card
Jasmine Smith
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A YA fantasy romance built around witchcraft and tarot, from a Big Five imprint with a strong YA fantasy list. Pick it if you want atmospheric, magic-forward YA romance with real stakes attached to the central relationship. Read our full review.
Bridget & Gabe Are Not Okay
Lex Croucher
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — The second Camelot Disasters book, a YA historical rom-com that follows two couples at once, one F/F and one M/M. Croucher’s readership from the first book carries directly into this one, and the dual-couple structure gives readers two very different romantic registers in a single book. Pick it if you want ensemble YA rom-com rather than a tightly focused two-hander. Read our full review.
In What World
Bridget Morrissey
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A sapphic multiverse rom-com from Berkley, playing a high-concept structural gimmick — the same couple across different versions of their lives — for both comedy and genuine emotional stakes. Pick it if you want romance with a real structural hook rather than a straightforward single-timeline plot. Read our full review.
A World Enough
Jenny Frame
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A portal-fantasy romance from Bold Strokes Books, sending its heroine into a paranormal world that runs on its own rules. Pick it if you want fantasy romance with real world-building rather than fantasy elements bolted onto a contemporary plot. Read our full review.
Never Date a Celebrity
Claire Forsythe
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A contemporary rom-com from Bold Strokes Books built around the exact premise its title promises. It is one of six Bold Strokes titles that all published on the same day, a reminder of how much of the sapphic romance midlist runs through a small number of dedicated presses. Pick it if you want a straightforward, low-friction celebrity rom-com. Read our full review.
When the Bell Rings
Claire Donniere
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A Christmas rom-com publishing in August, for readers who read holiday romance whenever the mood strikes rather than waiting for the season. Pick it if you want cozy, low-stakes holiday romance and do not mind the seasonal mismatch. Read our full review.
Life, Love, and Other Messes
Erin Kaste
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A contemporary sapphic romance from Bold Strokes Books that foregrounds mental-health themes as part of the central relationship rather than as background texture. Pick it if you want contemporary romance that takes emotional realism seriously alongside the romance plot. Read our full review.
The Rewind Effect
Morgan Lee Miller
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — Our Romance Pick for August — see the full write-up above. In short: a dual-timeline second-chance romance carrying the strongest Goodreads average anywhere in this batch.
Meet Me in Ericeira
Ava Freeman
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A self-published vacation romance set in Portugal, confirmed live on Kindle Unlimited, with the highest Goodreads average of the entire August 11 cluster. Pick it if you want an escapist travel romance without a lot of plot complication.
Earthbound
Saara El-Arifi
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — The third and final book in El-Arifi’s Faebound trilogy, an epic fantasy series with a sapphic central relationship running through it from book one. Existing trilogy readers are the obvious audience, but it works as a marker of how far the series’ stakes have escalated for anyone tracking it from a distance. Pick it if you are already invested in the Faebound world, or want fantasy with real series scale behind it. Read our full review.
The Witch Queen
Heather Walter
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — The second half of Walter’s Crimson Crown duology, a dark fantasy with a sapphic relationship at its center, closing out the story the first book set up. Pick it if you want fantasy that leans gothic and morally complicated rather than light. Read our full review.
Stay Buried
Jennifer McMahon
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — Our Horror Pick for August — see the full write-up above. In short: an established literary-thriller author’s first dual-timeline folk horror built around a queer central relationship.
Don’t Cross Mo Ellery
Birdie Horne
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — A cozy mystery from a Big Five imprint, built around a sapphic amateur sleuth rather than a central romance plot. Pick it if you want mystery-first sapphic fiction rather than romance with a mystery subplot.
The Bayou Keeps the Bones
Bailey Bridgewater
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — A Southern gothic psychological thriller from Bold Strokes Books, leaning into atmosphere and dread rather than romance. Pick it if you want sapphic fiction that is genuinely trying to unsettle you. Read our full review.
She Haunts Me Still
De Elizabeth
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — A horror/dark-academia novel with a bisexual protagonist at the center of a love triangle involving both a male and a female love interest. We are counting it as sapphic fiction because the protagonist herself is explicitly bisexual and central to the book, even though the relationship structure is not exclusively F/F — a judgment call we are flagging plainly rather than quietly folding in. Pick it if dark academia horror with a genuinely messy, unresolved romantic triangle appeals to you.
August 15–21
Better Than Revenge
Bea Fitzgerald
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A rivals-to-lovers sapphic romance built around a hybrid thriller plot, from Fitzgerald, whose earlier mythology-retelling work already has a following. Pick it if you want romance with real thriller mechanics rather than thriller elements used as light seasoning. Read our full review.
Homeward for a Spell
Jamie Pacton & Rebecca Podos
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — Our Fantasy Pick for August — see the full write-up above. In short: the second Homegrown Magic book, a cozy quest fantasy romance from a major imprint.
The Divine Gardener’s Handbook
Eli Snow
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — Our Most Intriguing Premise pick for August — see the full write-up above. In short: a dystopian science-fantasy romance about a girlfriend who accidentally turns off the sun.
The Blue Moon Café & 24-Hour Occult Emporium
Lexie Sharabianlou
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — A cozy urban fantasy from Dell with a sapphic subplot running alongside its main occult-shop premise. We are filing it as fiction rather than romance because the genre and mystery elements structure the book more than the relationship does, even though the subplot itself is a real one. Pick it if you want a cozy fantasy world you can imagine returning to for a series, with romance as a bonus rather than the point.
First Summer
Ekin Oklap
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — A debut literary coming-of-age novel set between Istanbul and London, quieter and shorter than most of what is on this page. Pick it if you want literary fiction that is not trying to also function as genre romance.
Unprecedented Times
Malavika Kannan
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — A literary coming-of-age novel about political awakening on a college campus, from a young-adult author moving into adult literary territory. Pick it if you want character-driven campus fiction with a sapphic protagonist at its center.
August 22–31
The Marriage Rebound
Meka James
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — Our Sports Romance Pick for August — see the full write-up above. In short: a second-chance marriage romance built around a professional WNBA career.
I Kissed Her First
Betty Cayouette
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A new-adult contemporary romance built around a celebrity-adjacent premise, from a debut-feeling release on a Big Five imprint. Pick it if you want breezy new-adult romance without a lot of genre trappings attached.
Bite Me: A Graphic Novel
Jennifer Dugan
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A YA paranormal horror graphic novel with a sapphic romance running through it, from Dugan, whose earlier YA prose already has a following in its own right. Pick it if you want horror-comedy in graphic-novel form rather than prose.
Books, Iced Coffee & a Side of Dragons
Amanda Lovelace
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — A cozy fantasy romance graphic novel with a trans-woman love interest — still a W4W story, and we are not excluding it the way we exclude M/F-plus-trans-man pairings, because the relationship here is between two women. Pick it if you want a low-stakes cozy fantasy graphic novel you can read in one sitting. Read our full review.
Witch’s Favor
Victoria Szalay
✅ Out now◆ Sapphic fiction
Why you might pick it — Our Small-Press Discovery for August — see the full write-up above. In short: a dark fantasy heist opening a new trilogy, with an F/F friends-to-lovers thread underneath.
Chasing a Melody
A.L. Brooks
✅ Out now❤️ Sapphic romance
Why you might pick it — Our Under-the-Radar Pick for August — see the full write-up above. In short: a self-published small-town romance carrying the highest Goodreads average of the entire batch, with a nonbinary love interest noted in the story.
What August’s Sapphic Releases Tell Us
Thirty-three verified books is the largest single month we have covered on this page, and large enough to say something real about the shape of it. Everything below is a description of this catalogue — not a claim about the sapphic market as a whole.
Romance still outnumbers fiction, but less evenly than the raw split suggests. Twenty-two of the thirty-three are books built around a central F/F romance, eleven are sapphic fiction where a queer woman is the protagonist but the book is primarily something else. That two-to-one ratio is wider than July’s near-even split, and most of the difference sits in one place: the August 11 cluster alone produced six fiction titles across horror, mystery and dark fantasy, a genre-fiction concentration July did not have.
August 11 did most of the work. Sixteen of the thirty-three books — nearly half the month — published on a single Tuesday, including six Bold Strokes Books titles released simultaneously. That is not a coincidence of scheduling so much as a visible pattern: small and mid-size sapphic-focused presses cluster new releases on a small number of dates, and a monthly roundup built any other way would understate how concentrated the actual reading calendar is.
The month’s two most talked-about books came from very different places. Nina LaCour’s Meet Me in the Garden arrived with the reception of an established literary author moving into new territory — over 1,600 Goodreads ratings before the month even closed. Jennifer McMahon’s Stay Buried did something similar from the thriller side: an author with a long backlist trying a sapphic-centered story for what looks like the first time. Both are useful reminders that some of the biggest sapphic releases now come from writers who did not start in the category.
Genre breadth held up. Fantasy and romantasy were the largest single genre grouping (eight titles), but the month also produced literary fiction, cozy mystery, folk horror, dark academia, sports romance and three graphic novels. Eighteen of the thirty-three came from Big Five imprints and fifteen from outside them — independent presses, small presses and self-published authors — roughly the same balance July showed, which suggests July was not an outlier month for how much of this category runs outside major publishing.
Three books this month needed a judgment call rather than a clean yes or no, and we are naming all three rather than quietly resolving them. Just Another Summer is a dual-protagonist graphic novel where only one sister’s storyline is F/F; we counted the book for that thread, not for the whole. She Haunts Me Still centers a bisexual protagonist in a love triangle with both a male and a female love interest, which is not an exclusively F/F structure; we counted it because the protagonist herself is explicitly and centrally queer. The Blue Moon Café & 24-Hour Occult Emporium has a real sapphic subplot but is structured around genre and mystery elements first; we filed it as fiction rather than romance on that basis. None of these are books we are pretending are something cleaner than they are.
